However, 3D pictures and 3D films are still hit, because humans want adequate picture information on both eyes, not only the same picture on two eyes. like the content of 2D pictures. 2D pictures contain lees than a half information of 3D pictures. This is because 3D pictures are made from two positions, the right eye and the left eye. The reason why a 3D picture contents more than the double information inside is the transformation of the 3D picture through the brain. Seeing two similar but different pictures, each at one eye, the brain gives us information about the depth and the dimensions of the objects shown. This additional information in 3D pictures often gives us what some people call the wow-effect.
As already mentioned, the impression of three-dimensionality on a 3d
picture is based on two pictures, which are offered to the eyes
separately at the same time. So 3D pictures simulate only the normal
human seeing. All You need to make a 3D picture is the photo
information of both eyes. You can get that information by photographing
an object from two angels with one camera, if the object and the
background is not moving, or you will have to use two photo cameras
simultaneously, if the object is moving. Of cause there are some
techniques to make 3d pictures of moving objects without having two
cameras, one of them is the mirror technique. But I think this
technique is passé, because it halved the resolution, so I
will not explain it any further.
Making 3D pictures is quite easy, just take two pictures of the same object from different views (like your eyes). My recomendation: You will get better 3d picture feeling results, if you photograph objects that are very close, with a smaller eye-photo-distance than normal, especially for 3d macro closeups and using a bigger eye-photo-distance than normal, for 3d pictures that showing objects far away. The only problem in 3D photography is to bring those two pictures together at one place like paper or monitor and present them to each eye separatly. Your eyes have to believe they are looking at two different pictures at one time and place.
A popular trick to do that, is to use the anaglyph technique. The 3D anaglyph picture technique is based on colouring the pictures in opposite colours, like red and cyan. Using red-cyan glasses the eye with the red glass over is only seeing the red picture, not the cyan one and the eye with the cyan glass over is seeing only the cyan picture, not the red one. This 3D picture anaglyph technique is very popular, because good 3d picture software makes everything for you and a special hardware is not necessary to present 3d pictures on the monitor or on the paper. All You need are 3d glasses and they cost only one/two dollar each (red-cyan paper glasses).

There are many techniques to present 3D pictures, like shutter glasses technique or light polarisation. Each one has it pros and contras. However as the time goes bye, the 3D techniques are becoming better and better. Already now, there are monitors that display 3d pictures even without 3d glasses. They are maybe a little expensive now, but in few years 3d monitors will be mass production. The whole 3D visualization techniques are making big jumps. (3D Monitors)
And maybe one day a person will say: sorry, it is "only" a 2d picture. 3d
pictures were not so popular in the past - or I did not know how to make them.
So if You like to make yourself or your following generation a
pleasure, just try to make 3d pictures. I´m sure You will be able - after some try and error. Remember,
this is allready the present and the future of
photographing.
Some people speak about a new 3D boom within the next 10 years with many technical revolutions. First successful attempts using new technologies are already made and they are not bad! Soon or in some years people will be able to use that technologies at home. There will be no need to wear anaglyh glasses, because the pictures will be projected on the air. As well computer can allready generate virtual rooms from two pictures. So in the future we will be able to transform those 3d-pics from todays 3D image technique and this will make even more impression viewing them. But first we need to make two similar pictures, thats all.
